The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday appealed to its members and supporters across Nigeria to remain calm and peaceful while resisting all acts of provocation as they await the results of the presidential election.
This was contained in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
The APC said the post-election moment, when all Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the results of the elections, was a tense moment for the country, hence nothing must be done to disturb the peace or cause disunity.It said, “We must begin the very critical process of healing all the wounds inflicted by the rancorous and divisive electioneering campaign, and rebuilding trust among our unprecedentedly-divided people.”APC reminded all its members and supporters that the agents of disunity were on the prowl, ready to trigger trouble and destabilise the country; hence they must not play into the hands of such people.“To all our members, supporters and indeed all Nigerians, we urge you to please remain calm and show equanimity if you must celebrate.”
Speaking on the same issue, the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, while calling for calm, urged Nigerians to be watchful of “impending distasteful actions” by agents of the ruling party.
It said the drama orchestrated by the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe during the collation of presidential election results was the beginning of more sinister things to come.
This was contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Campaign, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, on Tuesday.
He was reacting to the reported outburst of the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Godsday Orubebe, during the announcement of Presidential Election results in Abuja on Tuesday.
Shehu said the “bizarre show of shame” by Orubebe underpined a larger plot of the ruling party to foment crisis and subvert the nation’s hard-won democracy.
