Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday met with President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), at the Defence House, Abuja. Although Atiku said discussions held during the brief meeting were private, he told reporters that the All Progressives Congress had the capacity to thrash out issues surrounding the zoning of offices especially at the National Assembly. When asked why he met with the President-elect, Atiku said, “We just discussed private matters,” adding that it was too early to talk about resolving the issue of zoning. “That is too early. This is something the leadership and the party is handling. I believe it will be resolved before the House is reconvened (in June),” he said. The former Vice President expressed confidence that the emergence of Buhari and the APC would bring about the change that Nigerian had been yearning for. He, however, urged Nigerians to give the incoming administration time to deal with the issues it was going to confront. Atiku said, “Really, changes will come. The President-elect has assured the people that, but it will not just come overnight; it has to be gradual. Definitely, there will be positive change in that matter but it will be gradual.” In a statement by his media office, Atiku said he was elated at the news of the rescue of nearly 300 girls and women from the Sambisa Forest by Nigerian troops. He said it was unacceptable that hundreds of women, girls and boys had been abducted by the insurgent group, Boko Haram, over the last couple of months.
