The
mood is set for the All Progressives Congress (APC), and its supporters
to celebrate the victory of Gen. Muhammudu Buhari. Never before has a
governing president lost an election in Nigeria.Supporters have taken to the streets and houses of key party members to celebrate the victory. President Goodluck Jonathan has also called Buhari to congratulate him.
Earlier in the day, asked if the APC was claiming victory over Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). When asked whether the opposition is winning or not, the APC spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, simply told AFP: “Yes.”

The celebrants numbering in thousands danced round the party secretariat chanting victory songs.
The publication also reports that different dance groups, traditional drummers, well wishers and party chieftains exchanged pleasantries for the party’s victory at the polls.
The BBC’s Nkem Ifejika outside the headquarters of Gen Buhari’s party told the BBC’s Focus on Africa’s radio programme that “there is music, music, music here, it is so loud with people celebrating.”

Meanwhile, the Plateau state command of the Nigeria police urged residents of the state to celebrate the victory of their parties with decorum so as not to disturb the fragile peace in the state.
