Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Tony Anenih, has described the presidential election which was lost by President Goodluck Jonathan on March 28, as a pride to Nigeria.

He also said that Nigerians are expecting great things from the President-elect, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.).

Anenih, a former minister of works, also urged those who may still be aggrieved by the outcome of the March 28 Presidential Election to emulate President Goodluck Jonathan who conceded victory to Buhari so that Nigeria may enjoy peace, and march to greatness and prosperity.

Anenih in a statement in Abuja on Monday, commended President Jonathan’s statesmanship in conceding defeat, saying he has, by so doing, made an indelible mark on the sands of time.

He also congratulated Buhari on his victory at the poll and hoped that his administration would take Nigeria to greater heights.

According to him, “The 2015 Presidential Election, in which the incumbent President lost to the opposition, has become a source of pride to Nigeria.

“It has portrayed to the world that democracy in Nigeria compares to the best anywhere.”

The PDP BoT Chairman, in a two-page statement titled: “Marching on with Hope” and issued yesterday in Abuja, said: “A keenly contested Presidential Election, which many predicted would spell doom for Nigeria, has ended, gloriously, with everyone a winner.

“I congratulate the President-elect, Gen. Buhari, on his victory. Nigerians are expecting great things from him; it is my hope that he will take this great country to greater heights in the journey towards our manifest destiny.

“I salute the statesmanship of President Jonathan, in conceding defeat, even before the official declaration of results.

“By this noble act, President Jonathan has made an indelible mark on the sands of time. History will be very kind to him.”

He said President President Jonathan has worked, selflessly, to deepen democracy in Nigeria, adding that his consistent advocacy of the rights of the people to freely choose their leaders had yielded free, fair and credible elections in some states of the federation.

Because of this, he said a peaceful transition is expected to follow after the general elections.

The retired police officer commended the Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar-led Peace Committee for its moral advocacy that culminated in the non-violent reception of the outcome of the presidential election.
