Five people were killed by machetes and six others were seriously injured in an attack carried out on Wednesday by suspected members of Ugandan rebel group, Allied Democratic Forces in northeast Democratic Republic of Congo, civil society sources said Thursday.
The sources said the five who were living in Matiba locality within Beni territory, were killed on Wednesday morning when they were going to their farms.
Three of them died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries in a nearby hospital where they had been rushed.
Contacted by Xinhua, Thomas Kasereka who is a resident of Matiba, affirmed that DR Congo’s army had launched an operation against ADF in the region.
