The All Progressive Grand Alliance has hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission for upholding the cancellation of results of the April 11 governorship poll in Isialangwa North, Osisioma and Obingwa Local Government Areas. APGA National Vice-Chairman ( South East), Chief Uchenna Okogbuo, who made the commendation on Tuesday in Umuahia at a joint press conference with the Abia deputy governorship candidate of the party, Dr. Uche Eme-Uche, said the action had further restored public confidence in INEC as an unbiased electoral umpire. The Returning Officer, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, had during the collation of results at INEC office, announced the cancellation of the results from the affected councils but later reversed the decision following a fierce protest by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state. Okogbuo said, “I said we are not given to lies or speculations. If we tell you something, that is the way it is. PDP knows it and that is why it went to court. If they(LGs results) are not cancelled, APGA will not be part of the exercise.” But when contacted, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof. Selina Oko, said she was in a meeting and could not respond to questions. Calls put across to the Head, Voter Education and Publicity of INEC, Edwin Enaboh, rang out but he did not pick them either. Okogbuo declared APGA’s readiness to participate in the April 25 supplementary poll, expressing optimism that the party would clinch victory. He said : ” We are ready for re- run. We will mop up the remaining votes in the affected areas. The reasons are that Abians are ready for change and the wind of change is irresistible “.
