As of Wednesday, the Lagos State Election Petitions Tribunal has received 17 petitions both from the March 28 senatorial and April 11 House of Assembly elections in the state. The secretary to the tribunal, Hafsatu Suleiman, told our correspondent on Wednesday that while two petitions emanated from the March 28 senatorial election, 15 were filed by candidates who vied for positions into the state House of Assembly on April 11. According to Suleiman, the two petitions from the senatorial election were filed by candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Segun Adewale from Lagos West Senatorial District and Olabisi Salis-Fakos from Lagos East Senatorial District. The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the All Progressives Congress candidate, Olamilekan Solomon, who polled 429,765 votes, winner of the Lagos West Senatorial District ahead of Adewale who scored 372,421 votes. In the same vein, Salis-Fakos, who polled 126, 350, had lost to Senator Gbenga Ashafa of APC, who polled 181,221 votes in the Lagos East Senatorial District election. Though the Lagos Election Petitions Tribunal will sit at the newly inaugurated Roseline Omotosho Court in Ikeja, the presiding judges are, however, yet to be disclosed. Also, no date has been announced for the commencement of the tribunal hearing.
