By Johnbosco Agbakwuru ABUJA – SENATE President, David Mark on Tuesday swore-in Senator David Umaru for the Niger East Senatorial District. Senator Umaru’s swearing-in was in compliance with the Appeal Court’s judgment that sacked the former occupant of the seat, Senator Shem Nuhu Zagbayi who came in in a bye-election after the death of Senator Dahiru Kutama. Although, Senator Umaru was supposed to have been sworn-in before now, the just concluded general elections in the country contributed to the delay. Incidentally, Senator Umaru who has less than two months to stay in the 7th senate won the March 28 senatorial elections on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC,for Niger East. He defeated the incumbent governor Muazu Babangida who contested on the party ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Having been sworn-in, he may be said to be a ranking senator in the 8th senate expected to commence, June 2.
