No fewer than 80 players are competing for various cash prizes totalling N4m at the inaugural Zenith Bank Closed Tennis Championship at the Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos.
The tournament, which began on Monday, is featuring team and individual events, and it will end on Saturday.
Chairman of the Ikoyi Club Tennis Section, Edeh Osemwengie, told journalists on Monday that the players would compete under two groups, and either group would have four teams.
He said, “This is a closed tournament, for the club members only, so it won’t feature professional players.
“There’ll be men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and veterans’ categories.”
A representative of Zenith Bank, Mr Justin Osogbo, said the bank had concluded plans to make the championship an annual event.
