What They Did Last Minutes Before The Execution
Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise, Martin Anderson, Okwudili Oyatanze and Raheem Agbaje Salami were executed on Wednesday minutes after midnight.
Pastors reveal the last moments of Nigerians and their fellows sentenced to death in Indonesia. Meanwhile Australia recalls its ambassador after the execution of two Australian citizens but Indonesian officials say they don’t care about that and that the execution was done perfectly.
What They Did Last Minutes Before The Execution
Pastor Karina de Vega revealed the last moments of inmates sentenced to death in Indonesia. “They were praising their God,” she told press. “It was breathtaking. This was the first time I witnessed someone so excited to meet their God.
Father Charles Burrows, who was also present at the execution site, told that that all the sentenced to death chose to meet their death without blindfolds, starring right into the eyes of a firing squad team. “Everyone was looking forward, it seems everyone accepted their fate,” he said. Father Burrows also added that condemned prisoners sang Amazing Grace just after midnight. Then they started to sing Bless the Lord O My Soul, but the song was interrupted with gunfire. All the eight inmates died immediately after being shot in the heart. In case prisoners don’t die 10 minute after the execution, the commander of firing squad has to shoot them in the head with a hand gun.
One of the prisoners, Nigerian gospel singer Okwudili Ayotanze, hoped until the very end that his execution will be postponed due to his pending case in the Administrative Court. In case the court process had started earlier, Ayotanze could have been still alive. “He was a good person”, told a friend close to Ayotanze. “I will really feel the loss.
The only one person, whose execution was postponed at the last moment, was Mary Jane Veloso, who insisted previously in the court she was duped into drug trafficking. She was taken off the execution list, after Veloso’s alleged recruiter, Maria Kristina Sergio, who supposedly gave her a suitcase with a double bottom filled with heroin, and her partner Julius Lacanilao surrendered to authorities in the Philippines on Tuesday. Sergio faces charges of illegal recruitment, human trafficking, and fraud, but insists he’s not guilty. Maria Kristina Sergio told that she had to surrender to police after receiving numerous death threats.
After the execution of two Australian citizens with six other convicts Australia has recalled its ambassador from Indonesia. “These executions are both
cruel and unnecessary,” told press Australian prime minister Tony Abbott. Nevertheless Indonesian officials said they are unconcerned about that Australian government’s decision. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi answered Indonesia did not need to be too worried about the recall of the Australian ambassador.
The executions have been successfully implemented, perfectly,”  told Indonesian Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo. “All worked, no misses“. He said that the executions of two Australians, four Nigerians, a Brazilian and an Indonesian man are an important part of war on drugs. However, if Australian citizens faced the same charges in court of Australia they could get from a year of prison to a maximum sentence of 15 years instead of execution.
Two Australians spent 10 years in Indonesian prison on death row.
Yesterday the relatives of the inmates spent their final moments with their loved ones, while Indonesian authorities have prepared for them coffins and crosses with the date of their death – 29.04.2015.
Convicts sentenced to death are: Australians Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, Brazilian Rodrigo Gularte, Indonesian Zainal Abidin bin Mgs Mahmud Badarudin and four Nigerians – Raheem Agbaje Salami, Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise, Okwudili Oyatanze and Martin Anderson.
