61-year-old Nigerian born Dr Hauwa Esther Kadima, would still be alive today but  her 31-year-old son, Daniel, who bludgeoned her to death in the regency Park Apartment home in Texas, USA, reports AP.

After killing his mother with a chair, Daniel put a call to the police that there was a 'person believed to be dead' inside her apartment on July 28.

When authorities got to the apartment, they asked the son when last he saw the mother and he replied he had see her the day before, not telling the police the victim's name nor the relationship between them.

According to the warrant, when he was asked what had happened, the son responded: “My duty is just to call in and let you know.”

According to the report, the officers found the late Kadima lying on the floor next to a broken wooden chair and initial autopsy conducted on her showed that she had fractures to her skull, with laceration of the brain because of blunt impact to the head. It did not take the detectives long to draw up the conclusion that Daniel had actually beaten his mother to death with the chair.

He was promptly arrested and is being held at the Gregg County Jail with his total bail bond is set at over a $100, 000.

To add credence to the fact that Daniel has an history of violence, his ex-wife, in a sworn affidavit filed in the Gregg County District Clerk's Office, recounted past assaults and abuse from him, including four years ago when he allegedly head-butted her, breaking one of her teeth and busting her lip.

She said he also would take her keys and lock her outside their apartment, but also restrain her when she wanted to leave their home. He also had video cameras installed in their marital home, video recording their daughter.

The ex said:

"He eventually had a mental breakdown and was arrested multiple times. He was committed to a mental health facility."
