A 40-year-old tipper driver in Irri, Isoko-South Local Government Area of Delta State, identified as Umukoro, had a bitter taste of his actions when an angry mob descended him and beat him to a pulp, before stripping him naked for allegedly beating wife to a state of coma.
According to residents of the community, Umukoro was fond of beating his wife at the slightest provocation and on the day of the incident, he had beaten her so severely, using a pestle to hit her on the head, leading to her slumping and fell unconscious.
Thinking the wife was dead, Umukoro, a father of two, attempted to flee from the community but he was apprehended and given a sound beating.
A witness narrated thus:
“After the wife slumped, sympathisers descended on the man and beat him to pulp after he was stripped naked.
The man, who had two children, had initially attempted to flee, thinking that his wife was dead. He had hit the woman with a pestle, but the angry mob caught up with him.
The suspect faked mental disorder to avoid any punishment that would have been meted out on him by the angry mob, but the mob ignored his antic.”
