The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has urged President Buhari to diversify the economy in 2016 by partnering with state governments to invest in the distinct economic advantage and potentials of every state.

In a press release signed and made available to Naij.com by the national publicity secretary of the party, Mr Ifeanacho Oguejiofor, the party said diversifying the economy is the only route to providing mas$ive job opportunities for unemployed youths.

“The Party implores the federal government to urgently diversify the country’s economy by investing in the comparative economic advantage, viability and potentialities of every state, in partnership with the state governments, thereby creating avenue for more revenue for the federal and state governments as well as providing mas$ive job opportunities in the various states, for our teeming unemployed youths, most especially, for the graduates who are desperately and despondently roaming the streets in search of any means of livelihood for survival.”

Wishing its members, supporters and all Nigerians, a blissful and remarkable new year, the party called on the president to painstakingly constitute the Board of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as stipulated by the 1999 Nigerian constitution as amended instead of making haphazard appointments.

A part of the statement read: “The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), wishes its party members, supporters and all Nigerians, a blissful, optimistic and a remarkable new year, filled with peace and tranquillity, myriad economic opportunities and possibilities, and a collective unity of purpose, as a nation.

“It prays that the new year will usher in a spring of hope, economic improvement, a dawn of true citizenship awareness and self-consciousness of a common humanity of all, to all Nigerians. Also, for 2016 to bring a new thinking which our common and collective interest will be the basis of our relationship to one another.

“Moreover, APGA calls on the President to comprehensively constitute the Board of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as stipulated and envisaged by section 153 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended, instead of his last piecemeal appointments, so that the electoral management body will be able to function optimally, in consonant with the internationally recognized benchmark and best practices in the advanced democracies of the world. Also, the party advises him to be proactive in his constitutional responsibilities of making appointments to the various Boards.”

APGA also implored politicians in power to be selfless in service and alive to their duties adding that political ambitions and plans to win elections and be in government are not an end in themselves.

“APGA urges all Nigerians in the positions of authority and influence, at the three arms and every level of government or otherwise, to be selfless in service, up and doing, alive to their duties and constitutional responsibilities, so that 2016 will be a year of outstanding successes and great transformation, for the benefit of all Nigerians.

“It advises politicians and political parties that ambition and plans to win elections and be in government are not an end in themselves. Thus, they ought to know that electioneering and sloganeering for the 2015 election had ended and winners emerged. Therefore, let the promises made to the electorate and indeed Nigerians, by those who won elections be vigorously pursued and faithfully implemented without the present diversionary strategies, litany of nauseating excuses, pointing of the fingers, calling of names and playing games, which is noisome and making Nigerians feel helpless irksome and hopeless.

“Whereas leadership and governance should be hope inspiring with motivational speeches, good conducts, absolute as$urance, appreciable and visible performance. And not by being sanctimonious, using negative propaganda, misinformation hoodwinks and half a truth, without qualms, which is systematically and institutionally destroying our already debased governmental moral rectitude and corrupting our emerging democratic norms and ethos,” the party said.

Meanwhile, He made this disclosure yesterday, December 30 during his maiden presidential media chat.
