Prof. Wale Oladipo, the national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has reacted to allegations that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, a former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, is planning to return to the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking with The Punch on Wednesday, December 30, Oladipo insisted that the recent visit of Ribadu to Chief Bisi Akande, a former interim chairman of the APC had no political undertone.
“Ribadu has always been like a son to Baba Akande. I read about the visit and I am sure he is not defecting to the APC.
“The visit did not have any political meaning. He just simply visited him in Ila-Orangun. He has always been close to Baba and that does not mean he is leaving,” he said.
According to Oladipo, there is nothing wrong in politicians having friends among those who are not members of their political parties.

Meanwhile, Diran Odeyemi, the director of publicity and strategy of the PDP in Osun state, criticized Ribadu for visiting Akande, who is a former governor of the state.
“I was told he visited Ila-Orangun but is Ila his local government where he is supposed to announce his defection?
“Ribadu has never proved to be a loyal party man. He joined the PDP from the ACN and he is going back now. He is not somebody to be depended upon when it comes to politics,” he said.
About a year ago, the ex-chairman of the EFCC left the APC and joined the camp of the PDP. Explaining his decision, Ribadu said that his defection was not borne out of his desperation to realise his political ambition but was based on his patriotic zeal to serve the country and its people.
