A 42-year-old farmer accused of child trafficking was paraded yesterday, November 16, by the Benue state Police Command.

The suspect, identified as Unogwu Agbese, was arrested after he abducted his friend’s five-year-old son, to sell him off in Abuja.
The Benue state Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Moses Yamu, while parading the suspect in Makurdi, said:

“The father of the abducted five-year-old, Emmanuel Edeh at Apa-Agila reported the case to the police.

“He had reported that his son was, last week, abducted by his friend from the village and taken to Abuja without his parents’ consent.

“However, he ran out of luck and was arrested and the child recovered from him unhurt.”

After much interrogation, Unogwu confessed that he abducted his friend’s son to sell but returned the boy to his parents after he could not find a buyer.

He said:

“The boy is my friend’s son. I actually took him to Abuja to sell him, but I couldn’t find any buyer or anyone that could connect me to a buyer. So I brought him back to the village and his parents arrested me.”

Is it recession that is causing all this one??
