The Edo Football Association has arranged two matches in honour of fallen coaches from the state, Willy Bazuaye and John Onaghise. The matches are scheduled for the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on Friday.
It is part of the state FA’s effort to ensure a befitting burial for the respected coaches. According to the chairman of the association, Frank Ilaboya, the novelty match for ex-Bendel United coach Onaghise will involve old players of the defunct club and a selected side, while a Lagos All-Stars team will play against players who played under Bazuaye and ex-internationals, in honour of the former New Nigeria Bank coach.
Seventy-nine-year-old Bazuaye was an assistant coach of the national U-23 side when the team won an Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games. At club level, he managed top sides NNB, Flash Flamingos and Calabar Rovers.
Aside coaching Bendel United, Onaghise is reputed to have produced top coaches.
Meanwhile, Ilaboya has congratulated one of the state’s representatives, Kukuruku Dragons of Auchi, for qualifying for the next round of the Federation Cup.
