A 15-year-old marriage between a 52-year-old insurance worker, Omotayo Awodiya, and his wife, Olabisi, was on Monday dissolved, according to an Igando Customary Court in Lagos.
The ex-hubby had accused the wife of having multiple sex partners, while living in his house as his wife.
Mr. Awodiya told the court: “My wife always bring men into our matrimonial home if I am at home. She told me that they are her friends and that she could not leave them because she is married.’’
Awodiya said his wife was arrogant and stubborn just because she has some money.
“She does not respect me and she talks to me as if she is talking to her junior.” He urged the court to dissolve the marriage, saying “I am no longer interested.’’
The alleged arrogant wife, Olabisi, a mother of one, who refused to appear in court, however, consented to the dissolution of the marriage through a letter from a lawyer.
The court’s president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, said that it was obvious that the marriage had hit the rocks.
He ruled: “It is obvious from the testimonies and the respondent’s (wife) refusal to appear in court that the marriage has collapsed. The court has no choice than to dissolve the marriage. Both parties are free to go their separate ways without any molestation.”
